Introduction to Mindful Eating

Food is one of life’s great pleasures, yet many of us have a conflicted relationship with it and we miss out on this most basic of satisfactions. Reclaim the joy of eating using mindfulness techniques designed to lower stress and relax your body. Come and consider your relationship with food, the binges, the denials, the starvation diets. Let’s investigate the “Why?” Why are we in this twisted relationship? Let’s reclaim our joy and comfort with food and focus on what we want, not what we don’t want!

  • Tune into your body’s wisdom about what, when, and how to eat.

  • Learn to trust your gut!

  • Eat less while feeling fully satisfied

  • Identify your habits and patterns with food

  • Develop a more compassionate attitude toward your struggles with eating

  • Discover what you are truly hungry for

A workbook with class and home activities is provided. Participants are asked to journal about their eating habits and food choices. Mindfulness and breathing practices are used to counter the stress and anxiety associated with our food attitudes and eating behaviors.

Week 1: Nov 27 – Home for the Holidays: Patterns and Behaviors that Sabotage our Best-Laid Plans

  • The Nine Kinds of Hunger: Who is hungry and what do they want?

  • Eat, Eat, Eat. I cooked this just for you!

  • Are You Having a Second Helping?

  • Mindfulness Practice: Three Deep Breaths and Five Thoughts of Gratitude

Week 2: Dec 4 – Are You Going to Eat That? When Judgement and Guilt come to call.

  • I shouldn’t eat this but…

  • Good food Gone Bad

  • Me? An addict? I can give up (coffee, sugar, overeating, binging) any time I want to.

  • Mindfulness Practice: The World in a Raisin

Week 3: Dec 11 – Peace in the Middle of Chaos: Listen, Learn, and Let Go

  • Can You Hear Me Now? – Listen with your heart

  • Learn – What is the lesson for you? You can’t fix it if it ain’t yours!

  • Let Go – Soothing Yourself with Reality

  • Be the Peace – How do I want to be right here, right now? Letting others go their own way.

  • Mindfulness Practice: Take Three

Week 4: Dec 18 – What Really Matters? – Align Your Priorities with Your Actions

  • Can you list your top three priorities?

  • Living a Balanced Life

  • Moving Forward with Grace

  • Mindfulness Practice: Meditating on It

 

 

Class meets 4 Wednesdays | November 27 and December 4, 11, 18 from 2:15 to 3:15 PM.

Workshop is $80 ($20/class). Use the Westside Wellness punch card for $2 discount per class.
