Widows, Warriors & First Responders -Special Steady Warriors session by Warrior Spirit Project

iRest© meditation is evidence-based and offered at more than 100 VA or military medical facilities around the country, including the Dallas VA. When practiced regularly - a little and often - iRest enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation.

It’s simple to learn and easy to practice. It can be practiced by anyone, regardless of physical ability or experience with meditation. Once learned, iRest becomes a set of tools for life. Simply lay on the floor, relax, and listen effortlessly.

Developed by Dr. Richard Miller, a spiritual teacher, author, yogic scholar, researcher and clinical psychologist, who combined traditional yogic practice with Western psychology and neuroscience. It is practiced and taught by thousands of people worldwide in a wide range of settings, including health centers, schools, community centers, yoga studios, correctional facilities and military hospitals.

The Warrior Spirit Project is an exceptional program:

Teachers specially trained and experienced in trauma-sensitive methods

·        Teacher stays “on the mat” and does not walk around the room during practice

·        No hands-on assists

·        Taught entirely in common terminology and language, with no Sanskrit

·        All of our classes are fully adaptive – come as you are and practice on a mat or in a chair

·        Trauma-informed yoga provides opportunities and tools for self-regulation and prepares the body for entering deep states of relaxation

·        May help with sleep, pain management, and overall stress reduction

What people say:

From WSP Participants…

The movements were easy and not stressful on the body.  Everything was inviting instead of demanding! (During iRest) I was able to follow the words and find myself in a meditative state.  Once completed, I opened my eyes and was overcome with a soothing feeling as if all my stressors were gone.  This feeling stayed with me as I mingled with others and eventually departed.  As the days passed, I noticed that I stayed calm and relaxed. ~ U.S. Marine Veteran (OIF/OEF)

I have really enjoyed yoga and iRest. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if this would be a good fit because of my anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, but I was wrong. Not only have I benefited in my mental and emotional stability, it has increased my self-esteem and confidence.  ~ U.S. Army Veteran

Since trying yoga for the first time about 2 years ago with Warrior Spirit Project, I have found new family and benefitted physically and spiritually.  It has also been very rewarding to interact with the other veterans and first responders in the program.  ~ U.S. Navy Veteran (Vietnam era)

From iRest Institute…

Instead of feeling that something’s wrong with me, iRest helps me feel that there’s something right with me. —Iraq War vet

Through my practice of iRest, I now know this unchanging peace that’s within me. I feel like a samurai warrior who finally knows the secret. —Vietnam veteran
